Levi Scott Dunlap Memorial Foundation

Providing Scholarships at Rifle High School

What is The Levi Scott Dunlap Memorial Foundation?

Final Entry – Levi Scott Dunlap Memorial Foundation:

Colorado High School graduates received some amazing news from the State of Colorado on May 30, 2024. Governor Jared Polis signed HB24-1340 (Incentives for Post-Secondary Education) into law. This bill creates the Colorado Promise: Two Free Years of College Expanded effort, which will make the first two years at a four-year public college, community college or trade school completely free for more Coloradans.

This is for graduates where the student's household has an adjusted gross income that is $90,000 or less, which has been almost every applicant for a Dunlap Scholarship since its inception. Plus, it is FULL TUITION, including fees and books, much more generous financial assistance than the Foundation has been able to provide.

Therefore, as of August 9, 2024, the Levi Scott Dunlap Foundation is ceasing operations, as our efforts are no longer needed to help Rifle High School Graduates. We have assisted ten graduates pursue their educational future in the four years we have been awarding scholarships and only wish we’d been able to help more. A total of $21,968 has been distributed to the educational institutions of their choice.   The foundation ends with $48.42 in the bank and this amount will be distributed to the State of Colorado as required in our Articles of Incorporation for a Nonprofit Corporation, dated December 15, 2021.

Many, many thanks to all donors and sponsors. You have helped make dreams come true.

Best Wishes from Foundation Directors Daniel and Fonda Dunlap

The Levi Scott Dunlap Memorial Foundation was formed in Colorado as a Non-profit Corporation on December 15, 2021, and the Foundation’s tax-exempt status was approved by the IRS on February 16, 2022.  The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Corporation, and all donations are tax-exempt for the Donor.  Foundation Directors are Dan and Fonda Dunlap, with Dan as Managing Director and primary point of contact.

The singular purpose of the Foundation is to “keep alive” Levi’s academic legacy and honor his generous spirit by providing scholarships and other financial assistance to select graduates of Rifle High School, which was Levi’s alma mater.  Rather than supporting graduates who are fortunate enough to obtain multiple scholarships, the Foundation seeks to assist graduates who have limited access to funding and are perhaps the first members of their family to enroll in an institute of higher learning.

RHS graduates who intend to pursue Associate’s Degrees, technical certifications, skilled trade programs, Community Colleges or other such secondary education are prime candidates for assistance from the Foundation.  Levi was very aware that a 4-year academic education is simply not for everyone, and the Foundation is working to help graduates looking to pursue alternative educational paths.

Our foundation directly impacts the lives of those in our community.  Students who otherwise may not have the opportunity to pursue a higher education can now follow that dream.  The Foundation is bolstering one life at a time as a memorial to Levi.
